Martinez Awarded for Outstanding Instruction
VALDOSTA -- Dr. Reynaldo Martinez credits the quality of
Valdosta State University's Adult and Career Education (ACED)
programs to the positive collaboration between many dedicated
faculty members. But his impressive service record, obvious passion
for teaching, and two recent awards from top professional
organizations in the field prove he is integral to the program's
In June, Martinez received the "Meritorious Service Award" by the University Council for Workforce and Human Resources Education (UCWHRE). He was then honored in July as the 2010 Outstanding Career and Technical Educator by the Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia (GACTE).
"Even though this recognition was given to me, it really reflects the quality and positive impact of the work of the entire VSU team," said Martinez, whose 2009 article about evolving ACED principles received international interest. "Without the continued personal and professional support from other faculty and the collegial collaboration between the other ACED faculty, this recognition would not have been received."
Department head for Adult and Career Education at VSU, Martinez was awarded for his efforts to build a greater presence for ACED programs and to maximize the usefulness and accessibility of related degree programs.
At VSU, he worked to redesign teacher education programs in health care science and technology, office administration, transportation and many other subjects. These now provide more timely learning experiences and many are available online. A new bachelor's completion program will launch during the 2010-11 academic year, and will give nontraditional students a convenient, online option for completing a degree in office administration and technology, ultimately enhancing the quality of the workforce in private sector office settings.
Martinez was also chosen because of his leadership within the organizations. He serves as president of the UCWHRE and as a parliamentarian for GACTE; both roles provide him with the ideal opportunities to gather knowledge to share with VSU faculty and facilitate collaboration between members of the state and national organizations.
