VSU Goes Red for Heart Health Month

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University’s Campus Wellness committee is encouraging faculty, staff, and students to wear red on Friday, Feb. 13, in support of National Heart Health month. The Go Red national campaign helps bring awareness to heart diseases especially for women.

According to Brianca Holloman, member of the Campus Wellness committee, the campus community is encouraged to take photos of individuals or groups wearing red. The photos need to be emailed to Holloman at bjholloman@valdosta.edu with “Go Red” in the subject line. The photo needs to include a caption identifying those in the photo and if appropriate name of the department.

Holloman is also requesting personal stories and heart healthy recipes to go on the Campus Wellness Heart Health website at http://tinyurl.com/vsuheart

“We currently have a recipe book with more than 30 heart healthy recipes that was compiled from last year’s Go Red event, which we are adding to this year,” states Sandra Masci, VSU’s Heart Health project coordinator.

According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women and causes one out of three deaths in women each year.
