Do I have to participate in Blazer Beginnings Orientation?

Yes, all new incoming students (first-year and transfer) need to participate in Blazer Beginnings Orientation.

I completed Blazer Beginnings Virtual Orientation over the summer but changed my enrollment to Spring 2021 from Fall 2021. Do I have to participate in orientation again?

Yes, you need to participate in spring orientation. Some policies and procedures may have changed that will impact you, and we want you to get the most updated information. You should register for either a virtual session or the on-campus session (December 3) to participate. Also, be sure to complete the action items on the First-Year Student Checklist.

Is Blazer Beginnings Orientation just for students?

First-Year Students: The virtual orientation sessions can accommodate student and guest participation. We encourage you to participate in your Blazer Beginnings Kickoff Webinar with your family. The on-campus session is strictly limited to 2 guests per student.

Transfer Students: The online orientation can accommodate student and guest participation.

Is Blazer Beginnings Orientation for Spring 2021 semester in person or virtual?

First-Year Students: We are offering both virtual sessions and 1 on-campus session for students beginning in Spring 2021. When you register for orientation, choose a virtual session or the on-campus session (December 3). The on-campus session is strictly limited to 50 students with 2 guests per student. 

Transfer Students: Transfer students participate in an online orientation experience. There is no specific session date to choose. Once registered, you will receive an email with instructions to access the online transfer orientation.

How do I register for orientation?

Register for the Blazer Beginnings Orientation by signing into the New Student Checklist, and then scroll to the Orientation section where there will be a button to register.

Is there a fee associated with orientation?

Yes. Orientation requires a $25 nonrefundable fee per student that must be paid prior to participating in any orientation session (first-year virtual, first-year on-campus, transfer).

How do I access the virtual sessions of First-Year Student Blazer Beginnings Orientation?

You will attend a live Blazer Beginnings Kickoff Webinar on the day of your session. You will receive a link to join the webinar within a week prior to your chosen session date. You will be able to join the webinar via Facebook Live or Youtube. You will need to sign in when you join. 

We encourage you to begin working on the action items of the First-Year Student Orientation Checklistt prior to your Kickoff Webinar date.

How will I get registered for classes?

First-Year Student Virtual Sessions: You will receive an email immediately following your Orientation Kickoff Webinar with instructions on accessing the Pre-Enrollment Survey. Be sure to sign in, so that we know you attended and will send you the information

First-Year Student On-Campus Session: You will receive an email prior to December 3rd with instructions on completing the Pre-Enrollment Survey. Please complete it as soon as possible prior to December 3rd.

Transfer Student Online Orientation: You will receive an email following completion of your online experience with information on how to proceed with connecting with an advisor to determine an appropriate schedule of classes.

What is the MyMajors Assessment?

The MyMajors Assessment is used to help confirm your major selection and/or to help students who are exploring to discover majors at VSU. The program will recommend your best-fit majors that match your academic achievement, aptitude, unique interests, and preferences. Your advising team will review your assessment and utilize the information as they prepare to build your academic schedule. Only first-year incoming students are required to complete the MyMajors Assessment.

What is the Pre-Enrollment Survey?

The Pre-Enrollment survey provides much needed information to your academic advising center. Through the Pre-Enrollment survey, we learn about your interest in First-Year Learning Communities, Academic Majors & Career Goals, Incoming Course Credit (via AP/IB/AICE/Dual Enrollment), and your preference for academic courses. Once your advising team has received your Pre-Enrollment Survey, they will begin building your academic schedule. Only first-year incoming students are required to complete the Pre-Enrollment Survey.

How do I change my major after submitting the MyMajors Assessment?

If after taking the MyMajors Assessment, you desire to update your major, you may do so on the Pre-Enrollment Survey. Select your new major in the Pre-Enrollment Survey, and we will get it updated in the system when we are working on your course schedule.

How do I change my major after submitting the Pre-Enrollment Survey?

If you desire to change your major but have already submitted a Pre-Enrollment Survey, please email UAST@valdosta.edu with your desired major. We will work to get it updated in the system and make any needed alterations to your schedule.

Will I have to pay tuition as part of orientation?

No. As part of your virtual orientation, you will receive a payment schedule for tuition and fees as well as learn how to use our Student Online Account Center for payments. Invoices are not mailed, eBills (electronic invoices) are posted online each semester in the Student Online Account Center, after course registration.

How will I be introduced to all there is to do on campus?

First-Year Students Virtual Sessions: During your live Orientation Kickoff Webinar, you will meet members of our Student Life staff who are eager to tell you about everything we have for you to do at VSU.

First-Year Students On-Campus Session: During your on-campus session, you will meet members of our Student Life staff and other departments who are eager to tell you about everything we have for you to do at VSU. You will also meet our team of Orientation Leaders who are also excited to tell you about campus and their experiences.

Transfer Online Orientation: You will learn about the many exciting opportunities we have VSU during your online orientation.

I have Florida Prepaid. Can I use it at VSU?

Valdosta State University will process your Florida Prepaid plan for you as a third-party  contract. This allows you to receive Florida Prepaid credit prior to the fee payment deadline, reducing your out-of-pocket cost. You must complete the Florida Prepaid Transfer Form, which allows VSU to invoice Florida Prepaid on your behalf. The amount Florida Prepaid covers depends on the individual plan a parent/student has.
